Owner & Founder

Hi! I'm Shawn and I'm so glad you are here.

I know the decision to come to therapy is rarely something that is thought about lightly. Starting therapy is risky and takes a lot of vulnerability. As a therapist, I recognize the chance you are taking when scheduling your first appointment.

I completed my Masters of Social Work degree from Jane Addams College of Social work at the University of Illinois- Chicago.

I have extensive experience working with those recovering from distressing life experiences such as trauma, addictions, life transitions, interpersonal and or/relational dysfunction.

I am a Certified Group Psychotherapist, a Board Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (and Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor in Indiana) and have been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Modern Connections Therapy was created with the dream of bringing people together in a safe, therapeutic and healing space. I value our time together and will encourage collaboration in our work to restore and/or strengthen healthy  connections in the mind, body and relationship(s).

How Therapy Helps

If you are wondering if therapy really helps, you are not alone. Yet, here you are reading this page. Maybe its your curiosity, maybe you have done this before; or maybe it's your awareness that  there is really something wonderful about saying the things we think out loud; saying the things that make us known; being heard and feeling understood.

Ultimately, therapy can help us to have clarity, understanding, and acceptance. It provides the ability to heal from experiences that have caused us harm. Additionally, therapy allows us to challenge ourselves, our beliefs and our realities so that we can feel more whole, less isolated and have meaningful connections with others.
